3 Things To Ask When Having An Estimate Done For Vehicle Body Work

If your vehicle is in need of body repair, you will probably want to have an estimate done first. If your insurance company is paying for the work, for example, you may be required to do so. Even if you are the one who is paying out of pocket, it is important to have estimates done so that you can choose the right body shop and prepare for the costs. When having the estimate done, however, there are a few questions that you should ask to help ensure that you are happy with the process and repairs.

1. Do You Offer Loaner Vehicles?

Did you know that some body shops actually offer loaner vehicles? This can be a cheaper and better alternative to renting a car from a rental company or to go without a car. Plus, you don't have to worry about coordinating transportation to pick up and drop off a rental car. Before you make other arrangements, make sure that you ask your body shop if this is an option that you can take advantage of.

2. Does This Estimate Include the Use of OEM Parts?

Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts are parts that come from the manufacturer. This is typically what is used when you take your car to a dealership for repairs, but many other body shops use aftermarket parts. If your car is newer -- particularly if it's under the original manufacturer's warranty -- then you will probably want to choose OEM parts. If your car is older and if you want to save money on parts, however, you may want to specifically ask for aftermarket parts. You might be surprised by how much of a difference it can make in your estimate.

3. How Long Can I Expect to Be Without My Vehicle?

Body work can take longer than you think. Along with whatever work has to be done -- such as getting rid of dents or replacing bumpers or other parts -- painting may also be required. If so, it could take several days -- or even longer -- for the job to be done. It's best to be prepared for how long you will be without your vehicle, so it's always a good idea to ask for a repair estimate.

If you are having an estimate done for body work for your vehicle, make sure that you ask these three questions for best results. For more information, contact a company like River's Truck Center.

About Me
Making Your Car Happy

When my car started having serious trouble, I knew that I needed to do something to make things right. Although friends and family members pressured me to sell it and to buy a different car, I decided that it might be worth it to focus on repairs. I took the car to an automotive shop in my area, and they started focusing on finding what the problem was. It took a little money to get things fixed, but it was still a lot less than buying a new car. This blog is all about making your car happy and investing time into that old ride.
